Thurman: Lions Game is A ‘Must-Win’

Worcester Wolves centre, Robert Thurman, believes Friday’s game against the London Lions is a ‘must-win’ for his side.

Wolves sit second in the BBL table, two points behind leaders Newcastle after Sunday’s 97-86 away defeat at the Cheshire Phoenix, and Thurman insists that his side needs to win in order to keep pace with the league leaders.

“These are definitely must-win games for us as the Eagles will slip up sooner or later,” said the American, who joined Wolves from Danish side Falcon Basketball club in the summer.

“The Lions are similar to Cheshire; they play a lot of one-on-one ball so we will have to contain some of the individual scorers to stop them from getting comfortable.

He added: “In the last game (which Wolves won 83-78 in November) they gave us a scare, but we locked down on defence which caused them some problems.”

Thurman, who is currently studying for a Master’s degree at the University of Worcester, led Wolves to victory with 23 points when the two sides last met, and says he has settled in Worcester after playing an integral part in club’s early success this season.

“I like when we play as a team, and right now, I think we’re doing that. I’m getting my education; I’m getting my Master’s degree here. It’s a great city.

“We can go as far as our feet can take us, but we need to keep playing in games and play for 40 minutes, not 30 minutes. But, besides that, I think we can go all the way.”
