Friday 24 January 2014 – Worcester Wolves vs Cheshire Phoenix
High-flying Worcester Wolves return from a two-week break from action when hosting Cheshire Phoenix at the University of Worcester Arena this Friday (tip off 7.30pm).
If you are keen to explore what ingredients have helped propel Worcester Wolves to the top of the BBL Championship, the message from their forward Stefan Djukic is not to bother trying.
“There isn’t much of a recipe,” warned the Belgrade born forward.
“I just like to think of ourselves as a bunch of nice guys with a great will to win. We all share the same goal and that’s pretty much it!
“We’re feeling the same (as the beginning of the season), nothing has changed and we are playing game by game.
“We can’t allow ourselves to slip and our goal is to win all the games right until the end.”
The previous meeting between Wolves and Phoenix last October was an absolute classic, with the hosts squeezing out a precious 94-90 overtime success, and Djukic is expecting a similarly difficult encounter this time around.
“It’s going to be a tough game,” he conceded.
“Cheshire have got some chemistry going on since the roster changes they made and they are a serious threat to every team – as they proved last weekend against Riders.
“We beat them in overtime before they made their changes, so we’re expecting a really good game. Our team is also stronger now too and we had a bad game that time.
“I believe Cheshire are going to play in a galvanized way and with a huge hunger to win, something which will make this match even better,” continued Djukic.
“We want to prove we are the number one team in this league.”
The contest could also see Wolves’ small forward Alex Owumi potentially break through the magic 1,000 points barrier with a haul of 24 points or more.
After last weekend’s victory over the title-contending Leicester Riders, forward Victor Moses is looking for further success: “Leicester are a very talented and well coached team, so it felt good to get a win against them and it gives us more confidence going into our next games. We have to come ready this weekend to play hard and to compete.”
