Worcester Wolves 78-72 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball

The Worcester Wolves women’s team produced a gritty and determined performance at the University of Worcester arena, after a nail-biting game that had fans on the edge of their seats Wolves came out on top with a very well deserved 78-72 victory.
In a game full of defensive stands and clutching stores, the Wolves showed real resilience to fight back from the start, with an early double-digit defect and closed out the contest with authority.
Ipswich opened the game with sharp shooting and strong offensive rebounding, quickly building a sizeable lead. Worcester struggled to settle in the opening minutes, despite early baskets from Captain Carolina Marques and a three pointer from Anya Easton, which gave a score of 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
With the intensity rising with Tejonah McKay and Marlee Ball applying pressure and upsetting Ipswich’s rhythm.
The second quarter marked Worcester’s climb back into the game. Ciani Montgomery become a key figure, scoring consistently and drawing fouls to get the line. Eri Bukoye added a vital three-pointer helped to keep the wolves within reach.
Although Ipswich continued to score, Worcester’s improved defensive plan structured a rebounding presence that helped them to reduce the gap between the scores to 46-39 by halftime.
During the third quarter, the Wolves had a real turning point, Montgomery opened the period with a confident three-pointer, and Marques followed with a composed driving layup to bring the wolves within one possession.
Bukoye’s relentless attacking saw her finish multiple drives to the basket, while Ball added another timely three pointer. Worcester’s defensive pressure intensified with McKay, Ball and Montgomery all forcing turnovers.
By the end of the third quarter, the wolves had taken a 63-57 lead heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter was a real nail biter, Worcester opened the scoring with Bukoye making the first basket, the wolves combined teamwork pushed the wolves score further ahead, despite Ipswich’s final push.
The Wolves came out on top with a very determined 78-72 win.
It was a performance built on the team’s resilience, which gave them a victory that reflects the Wolves growing maturity and their ability to respond under pressure.
Coach Alexis said it was “Outstanding. The team rallied together and earned a big win that puts us in a great position for the playoffs.”
Captain Carolina Marques said, “I think for the game we followed our game plan really well, but there is always room for improvement, so a few things could’ve gone better.”
