Wolves Women Comeback Efforts Fall Short, As League Rivals Take The Win
15th November 2025 by Oli Russell
Saturday saw Worcester Wolves Women mount a valiant, late comeback attempt against Anglia Ruskin University, ultimately falling short with the visitors claiming a 60-72 victory.
The homeside struggled to stamp their authority on to the game until the second half at the University of Worcester Arena, meaning ARU moved two points ahead of Worcester in the NBL Women’s Division One standings.
It was an early start in Worcester, with a 12:00pm tip off, however this seemed to bear no relevance on the sides’ energy levels; with a frantic, end to end tone set from minute one.
Frustratingly for the Wolves, those in blue struggled to connect with many of their opening efforts which, alongside first quarter dominance at both ends from ARU’s Faye Parker, saw the visiting side establish a 6-18 first quarter lead.
Early second quarter determination was injected by Wolves’ Catarine Seixas, who produced a stellar inside out dribble, resulting in a much needed layup.
Impressive defence from Ciani Montgommery and bursts of brilliance from Tejonah McKay provided the home faithful with further hope. However a well-disciplined, resolute ARU defence left Wolves scratching their heads as to how to make inroads into the 19-34 ARU lead at the half.
Wolves Coach, Alexis Lewis, clearly attempted to instill some calmness into his side at the interval, as the second half saw a more patient, methodical homeside. This fresh mindset did not yield an overflow of Worcester points however, with the match’s momentum constantly yo-yo’ing between the sides.
Eri Bukoye fearlessly attempted to take control of proceedings for Worcester, dropping in a rare Wolves triple after good work by Anya Easton – who herself drained a maximum moments later.
The pair quickly linked up once more, as Easton produced a mouthwatering reverse pass teeing up Bukoye who put in for two.
Despite these encouraging moments, they were too few and far between, as ARU added 23 points to their tally, ending the third quarter 34-57.
It was clear going into the fourth and final quarter that a huge last ten was needed from the hosts. With just under two minutes to play the deficit was down to 12, and with the Wolves saving their best until last, the University of Worcester Arena remained buoyant at the prospect of witnessing something special.
Unfortunately for the West Midlands, the final buzzer sounded with ARU holding on to their lead, running out 60-72 winners.
This means the sides, who came into the match level on points, are now fourth and sixth in the standings, with ARU sitting two points ahead. Faye Parker top-scored for the visitors as they produced a professional display, doing the majority of their damage in the first half.
Wolves Women never stopped believing, as Cianni Montgommery led the offence with an impressive 21 point haul. Eri Bukoye’s dominant display earned herself a double-double, consisting of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Wolves Women are next in action away to Bromsgrove Bears on Saturday 29th November (5:30pm). They then return to the University of Worcester Arena on Saturday 6th December (5:00pm), coming up against Brent Bulls to kick off Super Saturday, before the Wolves Men take on St Helens (7:30pm).
