Double Delight for Wolves Forwards
It was a doubleheader of wins for Worcester Wolves at the weekend as they rolled over both London Lions and Cheshire Phoenix, to move up to third place in the British Basketball League. The emphatic style of both of those victories was matched by dominant displays for two of Wolves’ forwards, Stan Ocitti and Kai Williams. Accordingly, the Worcester pair have each been named in the starting five of the latest BBL Team of the Week.
Ocitti rampaged through the Lions’ defence last Friday to notch 23 points in the 94-76 triumph, as well as hauling down a highly-impressive 19 rebounds. Ocitti’s momentum was then carried over to Sunday’s 121-90 crushing of Cheshire where he grabbed another ten rebounds and floated in an imperious six three-point baskets amongst a personal 27 points tally.
Wolves Director of Basketball Paul James is appreciative of Ocitti’s contributions to his team, saying: “Alongside Alex Owumi, Stan has been probably our most consistent performer all season. He’s always there with around 15-16 points and ten or eleven rebounds. He’s been a tremendous asset and is thoroughly deserving of this latest accolade.”
Meanwhile it was a return to a former employer when Kai Williams travelled up to Cheshire, and he duly showed what they are missing. Williams wowed spectators as he danced to 29 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.
James was pleased to see Williams make his debut appearance in the BBL Team of the Week, commenting: “Kai had a tremendous game. He had already hit 20 points by half-time, and he really showcased his game. I’m delighted for him.”
The Wolves will not be back in action until Friday 22 March when they travel to Sheffield Sharks, who edged past Leicester Riders at the weekend to become the latest winners of the BBL Trophy. After that there will be an intense series of games at the University of Worcester that will have a huge bearing on Wolves’ final league placing. First up will be the Manchester Giants on Saturday 23 March, quickly followed by visits from Newcastle Eagles on the following Tuesday and Plymouth Raiders on Friday 29 March.
