It’s taken 6 games, but the Worcester Wolves finally have points in the win column. Worcester Wolves played host to the East London Phoenix in a packed University of Worcester Arena. Despite a good fight from the away side, home court advantage proved vital for the Wolves.

Amy Conroy started as she meaned to go on by putting the first points on the board for East London; Conroy scored 7 out of London’s 9 points in the first quarter. London took a 5-point lead early in the quarter but 3 unanswered baskets from Kayla Bell gave the Wolves their first lead of the game.

Starting the second quarter, the Wolves had a 3-point lead and after one minute that had grown to 5 after a deep shot from Jade Loughlin and a lay up from Kayli English. The two sides then traded baskets until the end of the quarter, seeing the Wolves take that 5-point advantage into the break.

Halftime score was Worcester Wolves 28 – 23 East London Phoenix.

Worcester’s Ellan Fraser entered the game and was more than up to the task, putting up 10 points off the bench. Her points along with another strong quarter from Sarah Hope helped Worcester stretch their lead to 7 by the end of the quarter.

Four successful visits in a row for the Wolves with no reply extended their lead to 11, their biggest of the game. East London put up a late charge, lead by Amy Conroy and Alice Mchaffie, and despite winning the fourth quarter their efforts weren’t enough to close the gap.

The Phoenix’s Amy Conroy was the highest scorer of the game with 25. Worcester’s Sarah Hope and Jade Loughlin put up 12 and 13 points respectively along with 10 rebounds each; joined in the double scoring figures by Kayla Bell and Ellan Fraser to cap off a brilliant team performance.

The Wolves face Cardiff Met Archers next Saturday away from home, where they’ll try to take the winning momentum with them.
