After a strong showing last time out against Nottingham Trent, Worcester Wolves were full of confidence when they hosted CoLA Southwark Pride on Saturday at the University of Worcester Arena. However, the long trip back south would have been a good one for the league leaders after a commanding 19-point victory over Worcester Wolves.

Worcester’s highest scorer of the game, Chandre Nunez with 21, started as she meaned to go on by scoring their first 8 points of the game. All of which were answered by Southwark Pride who then slowly began to open up a lead, having 9 successful attacks in a row.

Early in the second quarter, City of London’s, Beenban Jikiemi-Pearson drained a three pointer to open up a commanding 15-point lead. The Wolves put up a good fight before the half, but their efforts were almost matched meaning they were unable to eat into the deficit too much.

The score at the break was 34 – 43 to CoLA Southwark Pride.

The field goal percentage was what set these teams apart, with the wolves shooting 32% and the City of London shooting an amazing 57%. This was highlighted in the third quarter where Worcester converted just once from 14 attempts. The Wolves were only kept in it due to 3 successful trips to the line.

The fourth quarter was more of the same with the Southwark Pride highest scorer and rebounder, Isi Ozzy-Momodu, dominating. She picked up 12 of her 18 points in this quarter, to put this game beyond all doubt.

Worcester Wolves host Ipswich Basketball next Saturday at 7.30pm.
