Passing the midway point in the season and the Worcester Wolves remain winless after suffering a hard-fought loss to Cardiff Met Archers in the BWB Women’s Premier League.

The first quarter was dominated by Cardiff Met Archers, who took advantage of the Wolves’ slow start to take an 8-0 lead early on. Great Britain Paralympian Sarah Hope, finally open Worcester’s account after a pinpoint pass from Jade Loughlin.

Cardiff Met had a healthy lead starting the second quarter with the score 15-8. The Wolves were starting to claw back the deficit, getting it back to a 2-point ball game, before momentum was halted through 2 smart timeouts from Archers’ coach, Rosie Williams. Archers then began to regain their lead, capitalising on turnovers and missed shots from the Wolves.

The teams hit the break 25-19 to Cardiff Met Archers.

With 5 minutes left in the third quarter, the Wolves were 11 points down. Two shooting fouls from Olivia Phillips gave Loughlin back-to-back visits to the line, where she converted 3 out of the 4. These were followed up by successful mid-range shots by Sarah Hope and Jessica Dowdeswell to end the quarter with the gap back to 6.

The early stages of the last quarter saw the team’s trading baskets until the Wolves’ Sarah Hope picked up five points in less than a minute to bring the game back to a tie with 3 minutes to play. However, Worcester couldn’t hold on, 3 assists from Jade Atkins, all to Olivia Phillips was enough to end the hopes of the Worcester Wolves players.

The game finished 49-42 to Cardiff Met Archers. Worcester Wolves should be proud of their efforts, showing a much better performance than the 55-29 loss that they suffered the last time the sides met.

The team return to the court again on April 3rd at the University of Worcester Arena when the host East London Phoenix.
