Worcester Wolves vs Team Solent Kestrels

The third-round action of the Women’s National Cup sees Worcester Wolves welcome Team Solent Kestrels to the University Arena for a Sunday afternoon bout.

Wolves advanced to the third round after a forfeit victory over Derbyshire Diamonds on October 24th. Since that they are 1-1 – in league action-, a loss to the Thames Valley Cavaliers and a victory last Saturday over BA London Lions.

Last weekend, Worcester won the tense battle against the Lions with a last-second free throw from Carolina Marques. Shanice Turner continued her top performances being the leading scorer – along with Chandré Nunez – with 12 points.

The victory was indeed huge for the Wolves who had lost two straight games (that were actually played) before. We can expect to see an energised team in the court on Sunday. Winning such a tight game literally on the last second will definitely be a big energy boost to the team.

The Sotonians travel to Worcester after a league match the day before. They have a 3-1 league record. Entering the weekend, TSK returns to the action after an impressive performance against Nottingham on October 30th. The game saw TSK netting over 20 points in every quarter of the game en route to a 91-62 victory.

Wolves have to keep an eye on Faye Endean who has been on fire lately, scoring over 20 points in both of the last two games.

Back-to-back matches for TSK will favour Wolves. Are the Kestrels going to be able to shake off the fatigue and perform on their best level against a team that will be rested and well prepared?

The tip-off is 2:00pm on Sunday and tickets are available on the link below and on the door at the Arena.

Derby Trailblazers II vs Worcester Wolves

Worcester Wolves travels to Derby to the second leg of their three-game road trip on Sunday. Wolves stay red-hot heading to the match after yet another victory over rivals Stourport last weekend.

Last Sunday saw Wolves fend off the surging Spartans, bagging home another victory and keeping the undefeated record alive. They are now 4-0 and with Team Wolves the only undefeated team remaining this season.

Worcester had the game in their hands until a few errors saw Stourport climbing closer in the last quarter. They ultimately managed to take a tight one-point victory.

After the game coach Dean Blake said that his team made “uncharacteristic errors” and “didn’t play to their best” which leads to thinking that with a complete effort Wolves – for any team – will be a difficult opponent to beat this season.

The duo of Matei Balteanu and Wilfrid Santhe again topped the scoresheets against Spartans netting 17 and 18 points.

Derby Trailblazers lost their season opener against Stoke-on-Trent but have since won both of their games. This will be their first game in November and the first since the 23rd of October. The fact that they haven’t played in three weeks could be a factor against Wolves who have had the chance to establish a proper game-time routine.

On the other hand, we might see a hungry team, eager to get to the court to show, in front of their home crowd, that they’re the team to hand Wolves their first loss of the season.

The tip-off is 4:15pm on Sunday.
