Worcester Wolves Confirm Jessica Dowdeswell as Eighth Signing for Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Premier League

The Worcester Wolves preparations for their debut in the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League continue to gather pace with the announcement of their latest recruit.

Jessica Dowdeswell becomes the Wolves’ eighth signing in what is going to be an exciting season for the Worcester franchise.

Jessica, who is a Classification 3.0 athlete, will join the Worcester Wolves this season from the Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA).

In the 10 years that Jessica has been playing, she has multiple league titles including Junior League in 2017/19, Second Division in 2016/17, Women’s League Division One in 2018/19 and has multiple league achievements at junior level, including being named Under 15 Most Improved Player in 2015. Jessica also won a Gold medal at the 2018 Women’s Under 24 European Championships.

Jessica will bring a great deal of experience and versatility to the roster and she cannot wait to join her new team mates this season. On signing for the Wolves, she said: “I’m so excited to get training and I am ready to compete. This is an amazing opportunity to play against high level female athletes and I can’t wait to see the team we can create and threat we can become.”

Worcester Wolves Managing Director, Mick Donovan is very pleased to have Jessica on the roster. He said: “Jessica is a really exciting player and has already enjoyed success at both club and national level. We have received some great reports about Jessica’s game and we are thrilled that she will be joining the Wolves.”

The League will be the first of its kind for women’s wheelchair basketball in the world, and the very first professional para-sport league in the UK.

The University of Worcester will be one of four High-Performance Partnerships, which also include Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and the University of East London, that will each be home to a women’s premier league team.
