Worcester Wolves remain at the foot of the British Basketball League after dropping to a 114-76 defeat at second-placed Sheffield Sharks on Friday.

After falling behind by more than twenty points just after half-time, Wolves fought back to close the gap to 57-70 before their in-form opponents once more stepped on the gas to confirm victory.

A clever double of hand-offs from Miki Servera set up early baskets for Lester Prosper and Adam Thoseby. Prosper connected twice more for a useful nine first quarter points.

Jordan Whelan joined the action to sink a corner shot as the period expired and produced a strong drive and dunk to keep his name featuring on the scoresheet.

Robert Crawford floated home a couple of three-pointers but still had to see his side trailing 41-57 as the first half ended.

Point-guard Darell Combs was also successful from long-distance to keep Worcester within sight of their hosts shortly after the break.

However, a closely-refereed contest saw a series of unsportsmanlike and technical fouls called against Wolves. Combined with a Sheffield offense now firing on all cylinders, the outcome was by then decided.

Prosper led the scoring with 17 points, closely followed by Thoseby and Whelan with 15 and 13 points respectively.

A half-time illness saw Coach Ty Shaw taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital before being discharged following an overnight stay.

Managing Director Mick Donovan gave news about Shaw on Saturday morning, stating: “We are pleased to say that Ty has been discharged from hospital this morning and will be taking some time to rest and make a full recovery.”

Wolves’ next outing will take place on Friday 18 January (7.30) when they welcome top-of-the-table London Lions to the University of Worcester Arena. Tickets are available here.
