Worcester Wolves have completed their second new signing of the summer; American guard Malik Smith.

Smith is the latest player recruited by Wolves Head Coach Paul James as part of his summer rebuilding process – the club announced the capture of Spanish forward Javier Mugica yesterday.

6’2” Smith played for Iowa Energy in the NBA D league last season, where he demonstrated what he is capable of in a highly competitive league.

Paul James explains: “I’m really pleased to have a player of Malik’s quality on the team. He is a high-energy, up-tempo talented player with a good skillset.

“He can score in many different ways, but will also make sure that his teammates get the ball where they can be most effective too. He will be the driving force behind the team on the court.”

Smith previously attended Florida International University, where he averaged 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game, before transferring to Minnesota University, where his numbers were equally as impressive.

Of his move to the Wolves, Smith says: “I’m really blessed and excited about the opportunity in place with the Worcester Wolves. I’m looking forward to helping the club reach its goals of competing for a title.

“Coach James seems like a great coach; I’m sure his system will fit my style of play very well and it will be an easy transition for me from the NBA D league to the BBL.”

The club’s Managing Director, Mick Donovan, adds: “We are really pleased to have secured the signing of Malik, and we believe that the Wolves fans will be excited by his explosive and attractive style of play.”
