Worcester Wolves Women Return to the National League

The highly successful Worcester basketball programme will be expanded again this year, after it was confirmed that the Worcester Wolves women’s team will be competing in England Basketball’s Midlands South West Division.

The University’s basketball and wheelchair basketball teams are both national champions, while the University has also recently completed a takeover of the Worcester Wolves – the current BBL Trophy and BBL play-off champions.

The expansion of the women’s team will give even more students the chance to excel both on the court and in the classroom, says Mick Donovan, Head of the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise Science and Managing Director of the UW Worcester Wolves.

“The University has earned a reputation as one of the leading basketball universities in Europe, attracting students from all over the world to study and play at Worcester and to benefit from the extensive sports science and athlete support programmes.

“We are thrilled to be bringing National League women’s basketball back to Worcester and we urge all students who are looking for a university at which they can develop as both a student and an athlete at undergraduate or postgraduate level to contact us to learn more about the program.”

The women’s season gets underway in October, with the Wolves travelling to play Bristol Storm in their opening fixture.

They will play their home games at the 2,000 seat University of Worcester Arena – which also serves as a training base for the Great Britain basketball and wheelchair basketball teams. Wolves Women’s first home game takes place on October 25 against Cardiff City.
