BBL Trophy Final 30th March 2014

The Worcester Wolves will contest their first ever BBL Trophy final later this month after recording an historic semi-final victory over the Sheffield Sharks at the University of Worcester Arena last night.

The final, which will take place at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Arena on Sunday March 30, will be the Wolves’ first major final since they made the step up to the British Basketball League in 2006, and Co-Founder Mick Donovan has praised the tireless work of those involved with the club in making the dream a reality.

He says: “There have been many people involved in supporting the club in various different ways over the past 14 years, and whilst this success can be attributed to the current team, we also realise that the foundations have been put in place by the good work of so many others and we are delighted to be going to our first BBL final.”

Wolves booked their place in Glasgow with an 84-70 second-leg victory last night; running out 146-130 aggregate winners.

Coach Paul James, whose side also sit top of the BBL table, adds: “It’s a proud moment for the club and everybody associated with it.

“The owner, Roger Clarke, has been involved for fourteen years along with Mick Donovan, and they haven’t had a day out at a BBL final, so I’m delighted that they will now be able to do that, along with our long-serving supporters.”

Wolves’ opponents in the final will be either Glasgow Rocks or Cheshire Phoenix, who play the second leg of their semi-final – Phoenix hold a 80-74 lead from the first leg – tomorrow (Friday).

Glasgow’s Commonwealth Arena – where Wolves have already tasted victory in the league this season – boasts a 6,500 capacity for basketball games, with the Trophy final representing one of the biggest events at the venue to date. The facility will go on to host numerous different sports at the forthcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

There is an opportunity for those who wish to travel with the club to book a ‘Trophy Final Special’ that  includes transport from the University of Worcester Arena  to Glasgow (includes return) and a match ticket, all at the price of:  adult £45 and child £40.    The ‘Trophy Final Special’ tickets can only be purchased at the University of Worcester Arena Box office.

The Coach will be leaving the University of Worcester Arena at 06.30am on Sunday 30th March 2014 with an estimated arrival time of 13.30hrs.  Return travel from Emirates Arena Glasgow will depart at 18.00hrs.
