Launch of Wolves Ladies
Worcester Wolves’ Director of Basketball Paul James is an extremely busy man this summer. As well as being very active in recruiting several big names for the senior men’s team, James has been quietly putting in place the pieces for the launch of a ladies team to also represent the city.
28-year-old American guard/forward Shantrell Moss is a player with plenty of experience playing in Europe and beyond, who has been chosen by James to take on player-coach duties for the all-new Worcester Wolves Ladies.
Moss will lead her side into action in the second division of English women’s basketball, taking up residence at the University of Worcester Arena from this October.
5 feet 9 inch Moss graduated from NCAA Division 2 side Clark Atlanta University, where she was a big-hitter in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 24 points and nine rebounds in her senior year. Her professional career began on teams in Ecuador and Puerto Rico, before moving on to Iceland and then consecutive seasons in Australia. Her latest stop was in Switzerland where she put up numbers of 18 points and six rebounds for Esperance Sportive Pully.
James is delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced athlete to take on the important job of building a women’s programme, saying: “While most of my time is naturally taken up with the Wolves’ men, I also want to see the development of women’s basketball in Worcester. Shantrell is someone with vast experience who I feel sure has the qualities to lead this strand of the club.
“She will be arriving in the UK in early September and will be hitting the ground running in recruiting for her team, as well as beginning her studies at the University of Worcester. In the meantime, any players out there who are interested in being a part of the new ladies programme can contact me at the club for more information.”
