Worcester Wolves will have settling a score on their minds as they begin their new campaign in the British Basketball League. Their opening night fixture, on Saturday 28 September, will be a trip to the Surrey Heat, the team that defeated the Wolves in the BBL play-off quarter finals and cruelly ended their season back in April.

If that match was not already enough to get the competitive juices flowing, there will be another intense mission the following Friday, 4 October, when the Wolves will host the side that bundled them out of the BBL Trophy at the semi-final stage, the Leicester Riders. This game will also mark the very first game played by the Wolves at the spanking-new University of Worcester Arena.

Director of Basketball Paul James is excited about the early challenges that his players will face, commenting; “Yes it’s fair to say that there will be a touch of extra spice for our first couple of fixtures. We open up at Surrey and they always seem to raise their game against us. But we will just have to make sure that we also play to our full potential.

“When we then look to our matchup again Leicester the following week, then I have to say that the game is going to be huge. Leicester won three of the four competitions on offer last season and have already made sure that they have a talented squad assembled for the coming season. Added to that, we owe them one for taking us down at a late stage of the BBL Trophy last year, and then we have the absolutely massive matter of the game being our very first at the new arena. I can’t wait; it’s going to be a fantastic game.”

The Wolves organisation is reminding supporters that an early-bird 10 per cent discount off season ticket prices can still be had, if taken up before Wednesday 31 July.
