Despite not winning a game in the first half of the season, there has plenty of positives for Head Coach Lucas Warburton to build on heading into the 2024 fixture list.

New signings Lena Knippelmeyer and Alice Mchaffie joined the wolfpack in the summer, settling well into a new environment. Knippelmeyer top scored for Wolves in their last fixture before the Christmas break. The forward who plays the Germany International women’s side completed the game at home against East London Phoenix with 17 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists.

Alice Mchaffie came in from WPL rivals East London Phoenix in the summer providing competition for places within Lucas Warburtons squad this season. Mchaffie who has made a huge impact to the team with points off the bench and versatility.

The WPL is in its third season after being founded in 2021, Loughborough Lightning are two-time champions and are in pole position to become three-time champions.

Commenting on the strength of the WPL Head Coach Lucas Warburton said “I think the first half of the season was important for us as a team to really remind us how strong this league is, and what it’s going to take for us to change the results to go in our favour. We know nothing is going to come easy for us and we have to leave it all on the floor every game in order to come away with something.”

The Wolves have demonstrated there hard-working team ethic by how tight the last game against East London Phoenix was at half time.

Talking about the fine margins within games Warburton explained “I know we have a lot of talent in this squad, that have showed a lot of positives throughout each game, we just need to ensure we put that together for longer spells. I know that’ll put us in a really strong position for the remainder of the season and the Play Offs.”

Wolves get 2024 started with a road trip to Cardiff Met Archers this coming Saturday, tip off 3pm.
