Worcester Wolves Wheelchair Basketball Head Coach Steps Down
Simon Fisher, who joined the Worcester Wolves in December 2021, will step down as Head Coach of the Wheelchair Basketball team in August to pursue an exciting new career path.
Simon joined the team ahead of the inaugural season of the Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Premier League, developing and leading the team to 3rd place in the play-offs for two successive years.
Simon was also a key member of the University of Worcester BUCS Wheelchair Basketball Team and led the team, who were crowned National Champions in March 2023.
Simon’s natural ability to develop players of the future has been a key strength and he has supported members of the Worcester Wolves and University of Worcester Wheelchair Basketball Teams continue to progress and be selected for international duties.
Simon Fisher commented “It’s with a heavy heart that I leave the Wolves to pursue other opportunities. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the Wolves, the University, British Wheelchair Basketball, and most importantly the players. I thank them for their time and for allowing me to coach them. They are a tremendous group that I wish all the best for the future. I might be leaving however, I will always remain a wolf!”
Mick Donovan, Managing Director of the club, commented: “During his time at the University and with the Worcester Wolves, Simon made a huge contribution in terms of laying strong foundations for our HPP programme. Significantly, he fully embraced all aspects of our Basketball programme and we have benefited greatly from his enthusiasm, passion and knowledge. We have much to thank him for and wish him well in the future.”
The University of Worcester is one of four High-Performance Partnerships who compete in the Women’s Premier League, which also include Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and the University of East London.
