Wednesday night Worcester took on the Cardiff Met Archers for their rescheduled match from December at the University of Worcester Arena.

After winning the tip-off to start the encounter, Wolves couldn’t convert it to points and the visitors managed to open the scoring tally on the other side while grabbing a couple of offensive rebounds and converting them to points. This glimpse of dominance under the basket continued throughout the whole game. Coach Ryan Emery was forced to take a timeout after the first couple of minutes, scoreboard indicating a 1-8 Cardiff lead. Inspired by their coach, home team started to fight, but their efforts were toppled and the visitors took first quarter 14-21.

The Archers came out of the huddle scorching hot, connecting on consecutive 3 pointers and, after another opponents’ interception leading to an open layup, Wolves team was down 14-29. The home team tried to fight back, but the visitors had an answer to every trick Coach Ryan Emery threw in the game. Not being able to reduce the difference, Wolves headed to halftime with 15-point deficit.

Third quarter started off with sloppy offense and turnovers by Wolves. Digits on the scoreboard shouted 31-56 and the Worcester team took a minute to regroup. The remainder of the quarter went back and forth, the Wolves battled to cut the Archers lead and at the end of the third the deficit was 17, 42-65.

Anna Trett opened last quarter with a 3 pointer, Chandre Nunez managed to score 4 points on back-to-back attacks, Charlotte Finn connected from long range and Wolves pulled the score back to 66-76 with 3 minutes to play. Unfortunately, the visitors answered to this spurt with a dagger from 3-point range, later adding a layup and increased the difference to 15 points. Anna Trett made another triple during last seconds, but there simply wasn’t enough time and visitors came out victorious. The score after the final buzzer was Worcester Wolves 69 – 83 Cardiff Met Archers.

Despite the defeat, the Wolves had four players in double digits for scoring and we saw great games from Charlotte Finn and Estella Maloney-Danvers.

The Wolves return to the Arena floor this Sunday as part of the Wolves NBL Season Finale, tickets are available online and from the University of Worcester Arena.
