Worcester Wolves 55-64 Thames Valley Cavaliers

The Worcester Wolves entertained the 7th placed Thames Valley Cavaliers in the first match of Saturday’s doubleheader at the University Arena.

Strong showings from Shanice Turner and Carolina Marques weren’t enough today as the Cavaliers managed to leave Worcester with a 64-55 win.

The visitors started the game with a lot of energy showing on the court. They controlled the rebounds better and were able to create turnovers. Later on, in the quarter, the Cavaliers made some mistakes that Wolves utilised. It wasn’t enough as the opposing side bounced back to take a six-point lead after the first quarter.

The start of the second quarter saw Wolves play a lot more energised. Especially Wolves’ Shanice Turner who looked really good at the beginning of the quarter though she was unable to convert that to the scoreboard.

Cavaliers took charge of the game in the latter stages of the second quarter taking a 13 point lead until Turner’s efforts really paid off. She potted two three-pointers which put Wolves back in the game.  

The second half kicked off with the Cavaliers pushing hard. The Wolves defence managed to hold off the attack and Turner continued to impress, opening the scoring for Wolves.

At the halfway mark in the third quarter, the wolfpack came as close as 4 points after capitalising 6 points from offensive rebounds. Shanice Turner did everything she could with an impressive last-minute steal that ended up to be a field goal but the Cavaliers headed to the final quarter with an eight-point lead.

The fourth quarter saw the Wolves pushing hard but they were unable to crack the Cavaliers defence. On the other end, the Cavaliers offence continued netting points and capitalised on their free throws.

Shanice Turner lead the way with 12 points, 4 steals, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Also, a strong game from Carolina Marques who netted 11 points today.

Next, the Wolves heads to London to play the Lions on November 6th.
