Worcester Wolves were unable to make any meaningful impact at neighbouring Gloucester City Kings on Sunday.

Wilting against a team stacked with top-level experience, Wolves fell behind from the outset, dropping into a 49-17 half-time hole and eventually sinking to an overwhelming 83-46 defeat.

Former Worcester playmaker Elvisi Dusha paced the Gloucester attacks, grabbing a put-back basket for an 8-2 lead five minutes into the match.

Marcus Robinson was the only visiting player to notch any first-quarter points as his team looked up at a 17-5 deficit.

Another Gloucester stalwart Martyn Gayle accelerated the home advantage to 28-7 early in the second period and once veteran sharpshooter Karl Teesdale whipped in three long-distance scores in less than a minute the contest was already effectively decided.

Wolves flickered into life after the interval, initially tallying eight unanswered points and gaining a 17-15 edge over the third quarter.

A Robinson layup and a strong Christian Rufus-Shaba drive brought the arrears down to 66-38 before the hosts once more reasserted control.

With Dusha directing traffic to eventually rack up a highly-impressive fifteen assists, a number greater on its own than Worcester’s entire total, and attackers able to dance unhindered to the hoop, Gloucester were left to widen the margin of victory.

Robinson was the only double-digit Worcester scorer with 19 points, also pulling down nine boards to lead the visiting rebounding statistics.

“We lacked intensity and we failed to show resilience,” summarised coach Dean Blake.

“Even after half-time when we showed more energy, it could be argued that Gloucester took their foot off the gas.”

The team return to the University of Worcester Arena this Friday 09 October (7.30pm) hosting Cardiff Met Archers.

“We are going to have to play on Friday with far more intensity and have to be ready to play much harder from the moment the game begins.” added Blake.

Tickets are on sale for both of this weekends home games and can be purchased here and from the Arena box office.
