The Worcester Wolves BWB WPL team delivered a composed and disciplined performance at the University of Worcester Arena, securing a hard-earned 73-65 victory against the East London Phoenix. In a game defined by momentum and sharp execution in key moments, the Wolves showed maturity and control to bag an important league win.

Phoenix opened with confidence, trading early baskets with the Wolves as both sides settled into the game. The Wolves relied on the inside presence of Lucy Robinson and the scoring touch of Jade Atkin, who combined together effectively scoring through the first quarter.

Their teamwork helped Worcester edge ahead, and a composed layup from Robinson ensured the wolves had an advantage heading into the second quarter with a 25-17 lead.

The second quarter Wolves began to assert themselves more clearly. Robinson continued to find her grove, scoring points for the team. While Atkin added a couple of steady scores, with a couple of well-timed finishes.

Captain Jade Loughlin contributed crucial baskets to the team’s points, and the Wolves defensive rebounding particularly from Robinson and Atkin helped to limit Phoenix’s opportunities at scoring.

The Wolves consistency on both ends saw them build to a 37-31 lead by halftime.

The third quarter become a test of composure as the Phoenix pushed back, with a strong line of defence. The team found a scoring rhythm, narrowing the gap and forcing Worcester start a fight back.

The Wolves did exactly that with Loughlin opening the second half with a confident 2 pointer, flowed by Atkin less than a minute later. Robinsons mid-range shooting was reliable while Kirsty Van Der Poll added valuable points from the free throw line.

Worcester’s defensive held firm, allowing them to maintain the lead with a 52-44 lead heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter required focus and the Wolves delivered. Loughlin opened the quarter with a strong layup, before Atkin followed. Phoenix continued to threaten through free throws and mid-range efforts, but Worcester’s response was immaculate each time. As Phoenix attempted one final push, Worcester showed their composure and teamwork skills to work together as Robinson scored the last layup at 0:03 sealed the fate for the final quarter.
