Worcester Wolves made it two wins from two on their current extended road trip with an 89-63 success at Oxford Hoops, following up their 83-71 victory at Cardiff Archers last weekend.
Wolves’ fine run of recent form puts them in with a chance of taking over possession of top-spot in National Basketball League Division One if they complete the away hat-trick when traveling to Leicester Warriors next week.
One feature of last week’s conquest of Cardiff was Georgios Stergiopoulos’s sinking four three-pointers from just five attempts and the Worcester guard was soon hitting the long-range target again as the match at Oxford commenced.
Another player currently in electrifying form, American stalwart Earl Burgess, bustled his way to a swift nine points as Wolves edged 12-11 ahead.
Emmanuel Yeboah intercepted an errant pass and dunked the ball home to aid a 26-21 lead for the visitors entering the second quarter.
Luan Ferreira and Harry Godwin both introduced themselves to the action with scores, with the latter contributing a bunch of further baskets amongst Worcester’s 45-38 half-time advantage.
By the close of the third period the gap between the sides had doubled to 65-51 as Oxford struggled to subdue a blossoming Yeboah.
Jesse Kilara and Fin Rennie inked the scoresheet as the final quarter began and, after Burgess had once more fought to the hoop, a comfortable 73-53 cushion was established, leaving no way back for the hosts.
Men off the bench, Isaiah Dapaah and Pharrell McIntosh, took turns to float in triples to put cherries on the win.
Burgess and Yeboah led the scoring with 19 points apiece, supported by a season’s-high 16 points from Godwin.
Wolves’ game at Leicester takes place on Sunday 30th November with a 3pm tip-off, ahead of their return to the University of Worcester Arena on Saturday 06 December to host St Helens in a 7.30pm tip-off.
