Worcester Wolves men finished up their home fixtures for this season with an 88-62 win against Cardiff City on Sunday.

Another big crowd turned out at the University of Worcester Arena and enjoyed a competitive first half before Wolves established their superiority over the team at the foot of National Basketball League Division Two.

Jacob Dearman and Fin Rennie set the ball rolling with three-pointers but a lively Cardiff opening pushed them into an early 16-12 lead.

Rennie spun around to level matters and then took advantage of a long Wilfrid Santhe assist to nudge his side 20-18 in front entering the second quarter.

Emmanuel Yeboah and Kamarni Steadman contributed a bunch of points and Daijuan Antonio secured a wide open layup to keep Worcester 39-36 ahead and close out the first half.

An Antonio triple set the tone for a much improved home showing after the interval.

By four minutes into the second half another long-range Rennie success began to put daylight between the teams at 49-42.

American forward James Davis slid in a Yeboah lob pass to plump up a 62-52 third-quarter cushion for the hosts.

The final period saw Wolves now brimming with confidence, with players showcasing their skills.

Yeboah and Santhe sank threes, Steadman twisted to the hoop and Davis rose up to thump the ball with both hands through the net and finalise the victory.

“Cardiff didn’t make it easy for us,” said Worcester coach Dean Blake.

“They worked hard and came in and gave us a game in the first half. We mixed up our defence a bit and I felt our talent emerged towards the end.”

Rennie led the scoring with 18 points while Antonio and Santhe both went within a whisker of recording double-double displays.

Antonio logged 16 points and nine rebounds with Santhe tabbing 14 points alongside dishing out nine assists.

Davis achieved the double-double feat with a 12 point/14 rebound performance.

Wolves conclude their 2024-25 season with a trip to playoff-bound St Helens Saints next Sunday 16 March (4pm).

“St Helens have a really good squad and are still trying to confirm their playoff position,” added Blake. “I expect the match to be very competitive – we’ll go up there and give them a good game.”

The Worcester Wolves Wheelchair and Women’s Teams return to action on Sunday March 16th for the final Super Sunday of the season.

The Wolves BWB WPL team take on league newcomers the Mohawks Tip off 2pm), while the Play Off bound Wolves women take Barking Abbey (tip off 4.30pm). Doors open at 1pm, tickets are available here and from the Arena Box Office.
