Worcester Wolves completed a double-winning weekend after taking care of Big Sky Basketball at the University of Worcester Arena on Sunday.

On Saturday Wolves notched a 78-68 success at Cardiff City in league action and now move into the next round of the National Cup with an 81-59 defeat of their West Midlands neighbours.

Wilfrid Santhe followed up his game-high 21 points at Cardiff by joint top-scoring against Big Sky alongside new recruit James Davis.

Supplying 18 points apiece, both players also boasted double-double performances as Santhe dished out ten assists and Davis grabbed eleven rebounds.

An even 18-18 opening quarter featured American forward Davis beginning his scoring with a tidy floater while Santhe dribbled coast-to-coast to open his account.

Finn Rennie set up scores for Davis and for Emmanuel Yeboah before twirling to the basket to aid a 36-32 half-time Worcester advantage.

Davis further asserted himself after the interval, swatting away a shot attempt and taking aim from the corner of the court.

Big Sky had no answer for a burst of effervescent play from Santhe as he swept to half-a-dozen third quarter successes, widening his side’s lead to 58-46.

With Wolves’ confidence peaking Davis rounded off a powerful home debut by producing a steal and a thumping two-handed slam through the hoop.

“It hasn’t been an easy weekend to contend with, but it was great to get back-to-back wins,” declared Worcester coach Dean Blake.

“James only came off the plane on Wednesday but handled it well and I’m glad he came up with a really good performance.”

Wolves travel to Bristol Basketball United next Saturday 12 October (2pm), before returning to the University of Worcester Arena on Saturday 19 October (7.30pm) to face Teesside Lions.

“We’ll now take tomorrow off, but after that we’ll prepare to go hard again next week,” added Blake.
