Loughborough Lightning 60-33 Worcester Wolves

Worcester Wolves show great team spirit in defeat against two-time WPL champions Loughborough Lightning.

Lightning started fast out of the blocks in the first quarter scoring in transition with Jade Loughlin scoring two points and Ellen Fraser scoring for Wolves. The first quarter finished with Lightning up by ten 16-6.

Worcester continued to fight hard in the second quarter getting defensive stops with Ellen Fraser scoring from the right baseline and converting one of two foul shots from the foul line, Jade Loughlin converted a scoop lay-up.

Bringing Wolves to within ten points halfway through the second quarter ending the first half with the scoreboard reading 24-13 to the home side.

A strong start by George Bates side  saw Loughborough lead by twenty-five points before Ellen Fraser scored from the elbow to cut Loughborough’s lead to twenty halfway through the third.

Emily Branthwaite came into the game and scored four points with the score 43-21 to Loughborough lighting heading into the fourth quarter.

Loughborough continued to pile on the pressure with intense defence and clinical offense.

The Wolves continued to fight hard. Emily Branthwaite added more points to Worcester’s total making a shot from the top of the key.

Elana Brand executed a fantastic outside shot after good ball movement from Wolves in the final two minutes of play.

With ten seconds left on the game clock captain Kaylia Bell converted a Lay-up for Wolves. Despite a strong team performance from Lucas Warburtons side Loughborough lightning took the win 60-33.

Warburtons side are next in action on Sunday 10th of December 2023 hosting East London Phoenix as Wolves take to the University of Worcester Arena for the first time this season. Get your tickets for Sundays game here
