Cardiff Met Archers 58-47 Worcester Wolves

The Worcester Wolves opened the 2023/24 BWB Women’s Premier League Season with a loss on the road to Cardiff Met Archers.

A frenetic first period ended with Met Archers going into the first  quarter time up by three points leading ten points to seven.

Both teams started strong in the second period defensively. Naimh Horan opened her account for the game coming in from the bench bringing her team to within a point with a minute gone in the second quarter.

Elana Brand gave her team the lead for the first time in the game finishing from the inside, putting Wolves up by one point leading eleven points to ten.

Wolves conceded six baskets without reply, Ellan Fraser got the score board ticking for her side with a layup to cut the deficit to seven points with the score twenty points to thirteen in Cardiff’s favour.

After that bucket from Fraser the Wolves scored five baskets without reply giving Wolves a one-point lead at half time with the score Cardiff Met Archers 20 Worcester Wolves 21.

Scores from Alice Mchaffie and Ellan Fraser gave Wolves a five-point lead with eight minutes to play in the third.

Sam Hill got Cardiff’s first basket of the second half with a layup cutting Wolves lead to three points.

Alice Mchaffie scored many of the points for Wolves in the third quarter before Cardiff’s forwards Sam Hill and Jade Atkin began to dominate the inside of the key.

Which gave the hosts lead of four points at the end of the third quarter, thirty-nine points to thirty-five points.

Forward Alice Mchaffie scored ten seconds into the final quarter bringing Wolves to within two points.

Baskets from Jade Atkin, Sam Hill and Leah Evens extended the Met Archers led to eleven points with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Baskets from Jade Loughlin and Elana Brand cut Cardiff’s led to seven points before Leah Evens and Jade Atkin restored got Cardiff’s eleven-point lead.

Elana Brand cut the ball game down to nine points with one minute remaining and thirteen seconds left in the final quarter.

Baskets from Sam Hill and Leah Evens extended Cardiff’s led to thirteen before Alice Mchaffie’ layup in the final seconds of the fourth quarter cut the hosts lead to eleven.

Alice Mchaffie led the Wolves scorers with 16 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Elana Brand also had an impressive game with a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wolves are back in action on the 3rd December when the side travel to Loughborough Lightning.
