Cardiff Met Archers 53-37 Worcester Wolves

The Worcester Wolves have got off to a difficult start to the season as they suffered a loss against Cardiff Met Archers. The final score was 53-37 in what was a back-and-forth game that eventually slipped out of Worcester’s hands.

The first point of the match was scored by Archers Sam Hill but was quickly met with 2 points from Captain Sarah Hope. Both sides were eager get the ball in the basket in the first quarter, and both teams missed scoring opportunities. Worcester was able to block their opponents getting back into defence, allowing them to create an opening to make some successful shots. The wolves later lost their lead after a steal by Hill, but the quarter still remained close and ended 11-10.

The second quarter once again saw back-and-forth action from both sides with the lead alternating. Mid-way through the quarter the score was tied 17-17 but Worcester was able to keep applying pressure and looked promising as they lead by 4 (21-17). However, Archers bounced back and gained a tremendous momentum with an impressive 10 points scored in the last 3 minutes.

The score at half time was 27-21.

Archers continued this energetic performance into the third quarter and were able to maintain their lead with assistance from Jade Atkin, Leah Evans, and Sam Hill. Worcester was unable to contain this combination which would ultimately secure the Archers victory and struggled to make use of their chances. The Wolves did pick up 6 points at the end of the quarter which ended 39-29.

The final quarter saw the Wolves trail by 8 and the game could still have gone in their favour as the Archers were unable to get the ball in the basket at times. Unfortunately, Worcester failed to take advantage of these opportunities and were unable to up their score and the game ended with Cardiff Met Archers winning 53-37.

Both Jade Atkin and Sam Hill had a great game scoring 18 and 17 points and 18 and 11 total rebounds for Archers. For Wolves Niamh Horan and Sarah Hope were top scorers picking up 13 and 6 points and Hope getting 14 total rebounds.

The next game will see Worcester Wolves taking on East London Phoenix in their first home game of the season on Sunday 2th February 1pm.
