The Wolves were hoping for their first away game of the year however it wasn’t meant to be as unfortunately they lost the match today by a narrow 10-point margin. After a very impressive win last weekend Sunday’s defeat will be a hard on to take for the Wolves with chances of reaching the playoffs slowly starting to fade away.
The opening of first quarter was a very even and close contest with the Wolves getting the edge and deservedly taking charge. As the quarter came to a close an important 3 pointer from Charlotte Finn gave the Wolves a 9-point lead at the end of the first. (14-23).
The second quarter started off very slowly with neither team being able to finish off the chances they were creating. However, the Rockets did start to gather some momentum after a lovely 3 pointer being scored, they managed to close the gap to 6 points. As the game reached the halfway stage it was still too close to call as a late surge of points for both teams meant that the Wolves led by 2 going into the break (31-33).
As the game headed into the final 2 quarters it continued in the same fashion as the previous quarter with only 2 points being scored in the opening 2 minutes meaning the game was all levelled up. As the third quarter came to a close neither team wanted to take control of the game which meant that the margin between the two teams was minimal heading into the final quarter with the Rockets taking the lead for the first time by 5 points (48-43).
The final quarter started off with the Rockets trying to take control of the game with the hosts opening up a lead to 16 points with 5 minutes remaining. Despite a late comeback from the Wolves scoring 10 points in 3 minutes, it wasn’t quite enough to get the Wolves back into the game as the Rockets ended up taking the contest 67-57.
Grace Brownell led the Wolves scorers with 14 followed by Charlotte Finn with 11. The Wolves are away from home once again as they face Brent Bulls with tip off at 6pm on January 28th.
