Worcester Wolves failed to pick up points away from home after losing to 5th place Thames Valley Cavaliers. The Wolves who faced title contenders Loughborough Riders last week once again had a very difficult task as they faced Thames who currently sit just outside the top 4.
The start of the first quarter saw a lot of chances missed by both teams to begin with Thames getting the first points of the match with a 3 pointer. Both teams lacked a clinical edge to their play up until the final minutes of the quarter where we saw points flying in for both teams with Thames taking the majority of the points ending the quarter ahead 21-12.
The second quarter was quite the opposite with Thames picking up right away managing 100% shot accuracy in the first minute of the quarter. As the quarter grew on the Wolves did manage to get themselves back into the match 6 points without response from Thames. However, after the Wolves’ spell Thames made a few substitutions and because of this their lead halfway through the match was 43-26.
As the game went into the third quarter one of the main problems the Wolves seemed to have been how successful Thames Valley were with their steals which subsequently allowed them to grow the gap, they had on the Wolves by another 7 points which made a comeback near impossible unfortunately for the Wolves heading into the final quarter
.Despite the highest points tally from the Wolves in any quarter occurring in the final quarter it wasn’t enough to cut down the lead which Thames Valley had made for themselves throughout the previous 3 quarters. As a result of this the game ended 82-54 to Thames Valley.
Carolina Marques got the most points of the game for the Wolves scoring 20/54 that the Wolves put up . Next week sees the Wolves back at home facing BA London Lions II with tip off at 7pm.
