After having to forfeit last week’s match it was even more important that the Wolves tried to get victory away at Loughborough today however that wasn’t the case. Despite losing 71-63 there are still a lot of positives for the Wolves to take into next week.
The 1st quarter saw two different game plans in play with the Wolves going for a much slower and controlled approach which seemed to be working better as the chances created by the Wolves were much better and because of this the Wolves had the lead throughout the entirety of the quarter with it ending 7-12.
As the game progressed into the second quarter the Riders carried on with their plan of going for mainly 3-point shots was not working and because of this the Wolves were able to capitalise on the Riders game plan allowing the Wolves to retain their lead. As the second quarter came to close Charlotte Finn got a perfect steal which she went on to score from which made sure the Wolves ended the quarter with a 2-point lead (33-35).
As the 3rd quarter began the Wolves started off strongly scoring themselves back-to-back 3 pointers. However, as the quarter continued the Riders had changed their style which allowed them to get themselves back into the game and by the time the quarter had ended the Riders lead 49-45 for the first time in this match.
As we headed into the final quarter the start was very open with the match becoming very end to end with both teams starting to score points for fun. Despite this the Riders managed to retain their lead and as the quarter came to a close, the Riders started to slow the game down to ensure they ended the game as winners despite being second best for the majority. With this very slow tempo the game ended with the Riders on top winning the game 71-63.
Charlotte Finn had a standout game this week playing all 40 minutes, finishing the game with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Shona Williams and Carolina Marques also racked up 11 points each.
Next week sees the Wolves away from home at Thames Valley Cavaliers with tip off at 6pm on Saturday evening.
