The Worcester Wolves can confirm that the club has mutually parted ways with women’s team head coach Ryan Emery.

Over the past seven seasons, Emery has overseen the growth of the Worcester Wolves women’s basketball programme in Worcester, taking it from the bottom of Division Two North to a permanent fixture in the WNBL Division One.

He guided them to the Division two North league championship and promotion to Division one in the 2019/20 season before the season was cut short due to the Pandemic. In the 2021/22 season, Emery navigated a difficult situation and ensured our division one status for next season finishing 10th in the league with a 5-17 record.

Alongside his work with the Worcester Wolves, Emery also led the University of Worcester women’s basketball team for seven seasons sustaining midlands 1A status in a very competitive league. He recently won his 50th game in charge of the BUCS programme and led them to their first ever National Final this year at BUCS Big Wednesday.

Worcester Wolves Managing Director, Mick Donovan is thankful and appreciative of everything Emery has done for the Club and University programmes. He said: “We are extremely grateful to Ryan for the commitment and loyalty that he shown to the Wolves.

Whilst he has grown as a coach during his time with us, he has also had a positive impact upon the teams and players that he has worked with over several years. We wish him well for the future.”

Coach Ryan Emery has enjoyed his time at Worcester and is looking forward to what the future holds for him. He said: “I would like to thank the club for giving a young ambitious coach the reigns of their women’s programme seven years ago!

I took over in the third year of my undergraduate degree and have thoroughly enjoyed the highs and the lows of this journey, looking back its amazing to see the progress that has been made over that time.

I have been given the opportunity to grow and develop as a coach year on year, working with the club to build a culture and a programme that everyone can be proud of.

I am grateful to the players that I have had the privilege of working with over the years, it’s been a pleasure to play a part in their journeys here at Worcester.

I am proud of the programme that I built and the hard work that has gone into it. I wish the club every success in the future but now is the time to move on and seek a new challenge.”

The club is very thankful for the commitment and work Coach Ryan Emery has contributed for the past seven seasons and wish him the very best for the future.
