After picking up their first win of the season last time out, Worcester Wolves were unable to repeat that success away from home against Cardiff Met Archers. The final meeting between the pair saw The Archers narrowly hang onto the lead to secure the victory.
5 of Anastasia Blease’s 7 points came in the first five minutes of the game which helped Cardiff Met open a 7-point lead before a timeout from the Wolves coach, Simon Fisher, halted their momentum. The Wolves finally got on the scoresheet through Jade Loughlin and by the end of the quarter they were only down by 3.
The second quarter started 9-6. The quarter started with the two sides trading baskets. Leah Evans excellent work off the bench helped Cardiff Met open a gap late in the second quarter, she picked up 8 of her 16 points in this quarter. The last five minutes of the half saw Cardiff score eight points with no reply helping them increase their lead to 11.
Halftime score was Cardiff Met Archers 25 – 14 Worcester Wolves.
The start of the second half was more of the same; Worcester had eight straight offences with no score before they found the bottom of the basket. This allowed Cardiff to gain their biggest lead of the game of 17. Worcester fought back to tie the quarter and end the third quarter the same as they started it, 11 behind.
Three consecutive successful visits saw the Wolves narrow the gap to just 5 within two minutes of the final quarter. However, despite a late charge from the Wolves, their efforts weren’t quite enough to make it back-to-back wins. Worcester managed to keep Cardiff’s scoring to just 3-points in the final quarter, but the home side did just enough to prevent Worcester from closing that gap all the way.
Only four of the Worcester players got onto the scoresheet, Sarah Hope, Jade Loughlin and Ellan Fraser picked up 10 points each. Evans was the only Cardiff player to score in the double digit, she picked up a massive 16 points.
There were also double doubles for Sarah Hope and Ellan Fraser.
Worcester Wolves next game is on the 30th of April where they face Loughborough Lightning away from home.
