The Wolves returned to the court on Saturday after last weeks postponed match against Thames Valley Cavaliers. The University of Worcester Arena welcomed the visitors from London when the Wolves hosted the Lions in WNBL action.

It was the second head to head meeting for the two teams. After the one-point 57-56 Wolves victory earlier this season, expectations were for a tight bout.

The first quarter saw as expected, an evenly matched two teams playing good basketball. The Lions took a slight upper hand with a score of 18-11. In the second quarter, the visitors were able to run away with the score, heading into half-time in a comfortable 20 point 45-25 lead.

Wolves fell into errors which the Lions were able to capitalise on.

The third quarter got off to an electrifying start when in the early stages first Chandré Nunez and then Nuri Seyedagha-Calderon scored three-pointers. It sparked the Wolves to play their best quarter in the game gaining four points from the Lions.

The final 10 minutes saw a low scoring battle. During the first 5 minutes, the quarter saw only 7 points scored, all for the Lions. It was enough for the visiting team to take the victory by a score of 73-50.

Worcester had a good 33% success rate on field goals but today they fell short on generating enough chances for the victory.

Chandré Nunez’ was yet again on top form, notching 23-points which was good enough for the tied second spot of the game along with Lions’ Fatmata Janneh. Lions’ Ruchae Walton lead with 25-points.

Next week, Wolves head east to face the Ipswich Basketball on Saturday.
