Worcester Wolves welcomed Reading Rockets to the University of Worcester Arena when the two teams faced off in a WNBL-bout on Saturday. Wolves were hoping to end the three-game losing streak while Readings record from the last three showed one victory and two losses.
Both teams went neck and neck from the first tip-off taking turns in scoring. The whole first quarter went by with either of the teams gaining no more than a two-point advantage until in the last seconds when Rockets’ Jessie Ford made a two-point layup to end the quarter with a score of 19-15.
Both Nunez’ of the game – Reading’s Candela Hermida and Wolves’ Chandré – were on fire from the first buzzer, netting 7 points apiece in the first quarter and continued on the same route in the second. Rockets were able to take the edge on the second extending their lead by 5 points to a score of 38-29.
After halftime Wolves returned to the court trying to come back from a 9-point deficit. They played well and came as close as 5 points. Wolves made some crucial errors like giving three turnovers from bad passes in the third. Two of them resulted in Reading field goals.
Candela Hermida Nunez started the last quarter with two 3 pointers in 30 seconds giving her team a solid 14 point lead. After that, Wolves’ players left everything on the court gaining on the visitors lead. In the end, the Rockets were able to hang on and take a victory with a score of 70-78.
Worcester had much better numbers on their chances compared to the last game against Loughborough. Today, they were able to capitalise 18 points from turnovers, over a double up from last week. Also, Wolves’ bench continues to produce as they scored 17 points while Reading managed three.
Reading’s Candela Hermida Nunez lead the way in points today with 30, followed by Wolves’ Chandré Nunez with 27.
Next Saturday, Worcester visits Cambridge to face off the Anglia Ruskin University.
