The Worcester Wolves has added strength and depth to its roster ahead of this weekend’s British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League season opener.

Kayli English becomes the Club’s ninth signing ahead of the match against Loughborough Lightning on Saturday (January 22).

Kayli, who is a Classification 2.0 athlete, joins the Wolves from National League Division One side Manchester Mavericks, who she will also represent this season.

Prior to playing for Mavericks, Kayli has also played for Bolton Bulls, Angels of the North and Lancaster Spinners, gaining a wealth of experience in multiple league competitions.

Kayli played for Team North West at the Junior National Championships in 2018 and 2019, being part of the side that won the tournament in 2018. She also played in the Junior National League Super 8’s in 2019, with her team finishing second.

Kayli cannot wait to get on court. She said: “I am excited to be a part of this ground-breaking league. This team is a great group of women and I can’t wait to play alongside them.”

Worcester Wolves Head Coach, Simon Fisher, said: “I am delighted to welcome Kayli into the Wolves squad. Kayli is a player I have been watching in my previous role with BWB [British Wheelchair Basketball] as a player with potential. Her commitment to join Wolves for the Premier League season shows a real desire to continue that development. Kayli will add depth to our team as well as speed in her classification. She is an exciting talent, someone I am delighted to be able to coach this season and beyond.”

Worcester Wolves begins the new season against Loughborough Lightning at the University of Worcester Arena this Saturday at 1pm. Tickets are still available for the fixture, and it will also be broadcast live via BBC Sport.

The League is the first of its kind for women’s wheelchair basketball in the world, and the very first professional para-sport league in the UK.

The University of Worcester is one of four High-Performance Partnerships, which also include Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and the University of East London, that is each home to a women’s premier league team.

The Club will be making further announcements over the coming weeks. Keep up to date with all things Worcester Wolves across their social media channels and website www.worcesterwolves.org.
