Worcester Wolves Weekend Preview
By Amir Farhat
Worcester returns to the University Arena on Saturday, after a three-game road trip. Wolves who have been marching from victory to victory continued their perfect season winning at the Birmingham Mets two weeks ago.
Stoke-on-Trent Knights who are third in the standings with a record of 5-1 are in town trying to end the winning streak. With a victory in Worcester, the two teams would be level on points.
Wolves had yet again a mixed match last time out. After three quarters they lead the match comfortably 63-39 but lost the throttle in the last quarter, allowing Mets to come back to a three-point deficit. Fortunately for Wolves, time ran out and the hosts were unable to complete their comeback.
Coach Dean Blake said, “We’re happy with the result, a win is a win. We could have played better in the latter stages. But a few factors contributed to our sluggish end to the game.”
Birmingham won the last quarter 31-12 and it’s safe to say that against Stoke-on-Trent it will be absolutely crucial that Wolves won’t allow anything like that to happen or otherwise they will be in a lot of trouble.
Matei Baltenau who was on another level against the Mets, scoring a whopping 29 points, will need some help from his teammates against the Knights who have only once this season scored less than 80 points in a game. The visitors are currently averaging a little over 93 points per game.
Knights travel to Worcester after winning Nottingham Hoods 99-73 two weeks ago. They started their season with four straight victories before losing to Team Wolves in early November.
With the bounce-back victory against Hoods and a two-week break, we are expected to see energised visitors entering the court on Saturday. Wolves who have also had a break will be eager to take the victory in their first home match since October 30th.
The tip-off is at 7 pm on Saturday and tickets are available online from the link below and from the University Of Worcester Arena.
