The Worcester Wolves Women got back to winning ways this week, gaining a much-needed victory away from home against Nottingham Trent University.

A heavy cup defeat against Solent Kestrels last week meant that this week’s game against Nottingham Trent was a must win for coach Ryan Emery and the Wolves.

Wolves would be looking to build on their league form after winning their previous league game against Barking Abbey Lions II, they would be travelling away from home to face NTU who are yet to win a game in the WNBL Division 1 season.

The first quarter started fast for the Wolves, causing turnovers, and really pushing the pace. NTU were struggling to keep up with the jump shooting of Kacy Cox and Caitlin Collier. Wolves able to close out the first quarter with a 10-point lead, 23-13.

Nottingham Trent came back into the game fired up, causing turnovers, and hitting on the fast break, combatting the fast start the Worcester Wolves had in the first quarter.

The Wolves starting to slow down even though they were continuously driving into the lane and gaining contact, forcing their points from the free throw line. Nottingham Trent was able to match the Wolves’ scoring output from the first quarter (23-13) to close out the first half with a tied game, 36-36.

The third quarter saw a lot of fast paced, back and forth action with both teams pushing at each other. Both teams driving and both teams forcing turnovers, playing great defence. Not much in terms of offense and scoring, but effort going into the defensive end of the court.

This game was going down to the wire with 10 minutes to go, Wolves lead 47-43.

It would all come down to the final quarter, both teams still in the game with it all to play for. Four points separate these teams coming into this final quarter. Coach Ryan Emery had to close the game out and seal the win, which is something that has been difficult for the Wolves to do this season so far.

Worcester continued to push the pace in and continued to create space with superb jump shooting and driving to the basket for layups.

A great scoring contributing effort from Chandré Nunez helped the Wolves close the game out, despite an attempt at a comeback from NTU.

Nottingham Trent University fought until the very end; however, it was the clutch free throws of Chandré Nunez to round out the game, Wolves win 63-56.

Top scorers for the Wolves being Chandré Nunez (18) Nuri Seyedagha-Calderon (12) and Carolina Marquez (12).

The next game sees Worcester Wolves play Cardiff Met Archers II on December 5th.
