Worcester Wolves Weekend Preview

With our NBL and WNBL teams both on the road for away day action this weekend, lets preview this weekends fixtures in the National Basketball League.

Worcester Wolves vs Birmingham Mets

Worcester Wolves travel to Birmingham to end their three-game road trip against the struggling Mets who haven’t yet won a game this season.

Wolves, after a victory over Derby last Sunday are now the only remaining undefeated team in the league. They stand atop of the standings with a 5-0 record.

Last weekends victory came after a mixed match. The game saw an even opening quarter, followed by a Wolves’ controlled second quarter which they won 24-7 – ultimately crucial for the victory – another even 10 minutes and a last quarter where Derby came as close as 9 points. The visitors managed to hold off the charge and took home the two points.

Birmingham has struggled this season, their best result being an 11-point loss to Team Wolves in October. Their biggest issue seems to be playing a complete 40 minutes. Worcester with their recent form shouldn’t have too much trouble continuing their perfect record.

The tip-off at Sutton Coldfield College is at 4 pm on Saturday.

Worcester Wolves vs Nottingham Trent University

Worcester Wolves women will try to shake off last weekend’s disappointing cup-ending loss and return to league action against Nottingham Trent University on Sunday.

Wolves, who are 3-3 this season travel to Nottingham in hopes to extend the hosts miserable start to the season. They have lost each of their six games so far.

Worcester in league action this season has played pretty much perfect five-hundred basketball, with their “longest” streak being two losses, a tally they managed to end in the last game against London Lions.

The cup game against Team Solent Kestrels last Sunday showed positives from Wolves. Especially at the beginning of the match, they were able to capitalise on the opposition errors, scoring 12 points from 9 turnovers. The team themselves didn’t make too many mistakes and kept their own end clean.  The problem was that Wolves couldn’t manage that form for the whole 40-minutes. The second half saw a complete momentum change in favour of TSK which lead to the loss.

Nottingham is looking forward to ending their losing streak at all costs. Last week they played against Cardiff and excluding the first quarter, a 9-20 score, played a solid match.

We will see two win-hungry teams on the court so don’t expect anything but a tight evening battle for crucial points on Sunday.

The tip-off is at 6 pm.
