After a busy summer, the Worcester Wolves will announce the majority of its 2018/19 roster next week.

Managing Director, Mick Donovan, has been working with distinguished Sports Scientist, Dr Alejandro Vaquero, over the summer to put the new look team in place as they enter a new era.

“We made the strategic decision to put all of the pieces of the jigsaw in place before confirming the individual signings,” Donovan said. “We felt that this would enable us to see how the whole team would look, rather than simply recruiting individuals and just adding players as they became available.”

“I believe this collective approach has helped to build a group that will bring different individual strengths and skill sets and that will also give the new coach more flexibility to impose his own style of play.”

“We have been very mindful of the need to consider the preferences of different coaches. The one thing that all of the players share is a genuine desire to join the Worcester Wolves, and they will certainly bring excitement in offence and a gritty approach defensively as we embark on this exciting new era.”

Donovan continued: “With all of the players, we have undertaken extensive research and used our basketball friends and networks to learn as much about them as possible as both players and people.”

“There is a real mix in terms of experience and we have found a range of players, from those who have played at the highest levels to some who are yet to truly prove themselves and relish this opportunity. Interestingly, a few of the players have expressed a strong interest in furthering their education and were attracted by the strong link with the University.”

“We have not completed our recruitment yet and may make some more signings in specific positions. We also have some very exciting student prospects returning who have the potential to contribute to the BBL squad and are hungry to make their mark.”

The University of Worcester-owned Worcester Wolves will be announcing the line-up on Monday 6th August at 6pm across their social media channels: Facebook: worcesterwolves Twitter: @BBLWolves Instagram: worcesterwolvesbb

The position of Director of Basketball and Head Coach has attracted some very high calibre applicants so far and the Club’s hopes to make an appointment very soon.

The new look side will meet at the beginning of September to start preparations for their season opener on September 21st, where they will face ex-coach Paul James’ reformed Plymouth Raiders. Tickets are available to purchase here and with record breaking crowds last season this is expected to be another sell-out fixture.
