International basketball returns Worcester

The city of Worcester and University of Worcester will be once again the hosts of an international basketball tournament. Four participating teams will compete at the end of May 2018 for the 1st edition of Worcester Cup 2018: Wales Futures (national team of Wales Under 20), CSS Buzau Under 18 (a club team from Buzau, Romania), Worcester Wolves U18 and University of Worcester Select team. The games will be played as a round robin tournament (each team plays all other competing teams once), tournament which will be played at St. Johns campus of University of Worcester between 25th- 27th May 2018 according to the following programme:

Friday 25th May 2018
16.00 – 18.00: CSS Buzau U18 vs. Univ. of Worcester Select
18.00 – 20.00: Wales Futures vs. Worcester Wolves U18

Saturday 26th May 2018
16.00 – 18.00: Univ. of Worcester Select vs. Worcester Wolves U18
18.00 – 20.00: Wales Futures vs. CSS Buzau U18

Sunday 27th May 2018
12.00 – 14.00: Wales Futures vs. Univ. of Worcester Select
14.00 – 16.00: CSS Buzau U18 vs. Worcester Wolves U18

“This is another great opportunity for us to continue the preparation programme and to test ourselves against some good quality European opposition”, said Alex Radu who is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching Basketball at University of Worcester and also the Head Coach of Wales Futures team. He added: “As we have done in previous years (when we run successful camps at the University of Worcester), we return to these fantastic facilities and we look forward to welcoming the visiting team to Worcester”. A similar point was expressed by Jon Miller, the Head Coach of Worcester Wolves U18 team, “we are currently involved in preparing a team for next season and three international games will give us a good indication of players’ potential and what we need to work on during the summer!”

This free-entry international event is open to anyone who would like to watch international youth basketball.
