Worcester Wolves Ladies beat Cardiff Met Archers II 55-39
Worcester Wolves ladies are safely through to the next round of the national cup behind Eryn Morton’s double double effort in front of over 100 spectators.
The Wolves ladies started five first-year players and got off to a slow start in the first and found themselves down 13-5 after the first quarter. However, after the nerves had settled great defensive energy and effort saw the wolves only allow Cardiff 10 points across the second and third quarters while tallying 37 of their own.
Heading into the forth and the Wolves ladies withstood good pressure from Cardiff and were able to execute offensively to ensure that Bristol flyers Women made the short trip to Worcester on the 29th October.
Emery ‘Overall, it was a good game for us, we needed a team to have a good start, it was good to watch how our players reacted to this challenge in front of a decent crowd. I am happy that our players continued to focus on ourselves and trust how we want to play and as a result, we were able to get the win.
Captain Dalia Jakubaityte ‘We struggled in the first quarter, but we managed to set our minds in the right direction and get the win. A lot of positives to take from this game. Now we see arena we need to work on more and we will fix that for the next game, All in all, we are a new team, we are still learning how to work together and we will learn from our mistakes’
Eryn top scored with 12 points and added 11 rebounds but a lot of players had 8,7,6 points respectively as we played with two sets of 5 players so no-one played more than 22 minutes.
Emery: ‘It is a different way of coaching that isn’t popular amongst coaches, having two groups of five that change every 3-4 minutes allows us to play at a high tempo for all 40 minutes with players knowing they can work hard and then get a rest and let their teammates take over.
It is a great example of the journey we are on, we are a very deep team and it says a lot about the group we have that they are willing to give me playing time so that we can succeed.
Wolves Ladies are the first part of a back to back this Saturday tipping at 4pm at the University of Worcester St Johns campus sports center as the men’s seconds play Sheffield Hallam Sharks II at 6.
