Worcester Wolves v Newcastle Eagles Smile for Joel Event

zak riabi

I hope you are all well?

I write to give an update on a fundraising event during the evening at the Worcester Wolves versus Newcastle Eagles game on Friday 28th October.

The University of Worcester and the Worcester Wolves will be hosting exciting fundraising activities to raise vital funds for ‘Smileforjoel’, a charity set up in conjunction with Victim Support by Suzy and Owen Richards. University of Worcester student Joel Richards was just 19 years old when his life was tragically taken in the Tunisian terror attack of June 2015. Joel’s younger brother, Owen, survived the attack, but their uncle, Adrian, and grandfather, Pat, were also killed. Joel was the youngest of the 38 victims.

As an independent charity, Victim Support rely on the fundraising efforts of supporters like Suzy and Owen to help people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need. Their aim is to help people feel safer and find the strength to move beyond crime. All funds raised through Smileforjoel at the Basketball event will go to supporting families affected by violent crime, including those affected by terrorism. The Conference and Media Suite that overlooks the Wolves court was named after Joel at a ceremony of dedication performed by the University’s Chancellor HRH Duke of Gloucester, in March 2016; and some of Joel’s friends have either been players for the Wolves second team in the past , whilst many have been Wolves fans who have cheered on the BBL team

During the evening we will also be holding a silent auction, raffle and collections and we will be circulating news of the prizes throughout the week and they are very impressive. Our visitors for the evening, The Newcastle Eagles, have agreed to support activities and the club have kindly agreed to donate a signed Eagle shirt for the raffle.

We do hope you, the Wolfpack will be able to join friends and donate generously to this most worthwhile cause which is close to the hearts of so many of us at the University of Worcester and Worcester wolves.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased here. If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation, please visit the Smileforjoel JustGiving page here

Many thanks for your ongoing support.
