NBA Trialist arrives in Worcester
Worcester Wolves have confirmed their ambition to be one of the sides challenging for honours in this season’s British Basketball League by signing a player who has recently been watched by a number of NBA scouts.
Earlier this year 23-years-old Josh Cameron spent time on the roster of Memphis Grizzlies’ summer league team. Prior to that, 6-feet 1-inch Cameron played his college basketball at Coastal Carolina, averaging thirteen points a game in helping his side to consecutive NCAA tournaments, ending a 21-year absence from the post-season party.
He is excited to now be joining the Wolves, saying:
“This a really interesting opportunity to play in England and to be able to join the Worcester Wolves and help them to succeed in the BBL is one that I am looking forward to. I have heard about the club’s ambitions and really want to be able to contribute to the program and make an impact on the court”
Coach Paul James is delighted to be able to fill the vacancy at the guard position created by the release of Malik Smith just three games into the season, saying:
“I’m looking forward to Josh joining the team. He will be coming in at a time where the team are really starting to play well together, which should make his transition smoother.”
A major feature of Cameron’s game is his three-point shooting, making 37 percent of his attempts over the last couple of seasons. Wolves currently stand last in the league in successful three-point shots, a statistic that James is keen to address, adding:
“There are many areas of the game that we need to improve on, one of them is our three point shooting and Josh will help strengthen us in this area.”
The first chance to see Cameron in a Wolves vest in Worcester will be Friday, 6th November, at the University of Worcester Arena when the Wolves play their quarter final cup game against the London Lions (tip off 7.30pm).
Should he arrive in time this week, he may also make his debut at the Sheffield Sharks this Sunday.
