December 2014 Wolves Won’t Rush into Making New Signings

Worcester Wolves head coach, Paul James, has insisted that the club won’t be rushed into making any signings ahead of this weekend’s British Basketball League (BBL) double-header, despite having only eight players available for selection.

Wolves host the Manchester Giants on Friday before travelling north to face the Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday, but James has indicated that any signings would only be made after careful consideration to ensure that players are a good match for the club.

“We’re still looking”, admitted James. “It’s obviously a concern – if we pick up another injury we’re going to be struggling. But we have got some players who we can call up from the second team like Caylin Raftopolous, who obviously played with the BBL team last year.

“But I think we’re doing a good job in keeping guys healthy and fit, so as long as we don’t pick up any more injuries we’ll be fine.”

And James is confident that his entire squad can play a role in the club’s bid for success this season.

“I’d like to give Alex Owumi and Chavis Holmes a little bit more of a rest if I can, especially because it’s a double-header this weekend,” continued James.

“I think the key thing for us, and for us to be successful, is what our bench does. So you’re looking at Remi Dibo, Sean Park, Disraeli Lufadeju; what they do coming off the bench.

“If they can give us some production, both offensively and defensively, that just makes us a much better team”, he added.

A win for Wolves on Friday could see them leapfrog the Newcastle Eagles into top spot in the BBL.
