November 2014 Wolves in High Spirits Ahead of Bristol Visit
The Worcester Wolves will be seeking revenge when they host the Bristol Flyers tomorrow, after they were dumped out of the British Basketball League (BBL) Cup by the league debutants in October.
Despite this defeat, Wolves have been beaten just once so far in the league, and Head Coach, Paul James, is hoping that the high spirits within the camp will help drive his side to a seventh straight league win that could put them joint top of the BBL.
“The spirit’s good. I can see steady improvement as we’re going along; defensively I think we’re getting better,” he said.
“There are still things that we need to work on, but, certainly, we’re heading in the right direction.
“We are where we are in the league and we want to stay there. It’s a massive game for us. To be fair, we didn’t play well against them last time and they played exceptionally well; they shot the ball nearly fifty percent from the three point line and, basically, couldn’t miss a shot.
“We haven’t been at our best yet. We haven’t seen the best of the team,” he added
The Flyers will be without key player Doug Herrig Jr, who tormented Wolves in October’s defeat, after the American guard suffered a meniscus tear that will keep him side-lined for at least four months. But James insists that Bristol will still pose a threat to his side.
“It’s going to be a tough game for us. They’ve been together for a long time, they’ve grown up together and they know each other inside out. They’re very composed, very well coached and we’ve just got to do a better job of getting after them early on.”
Wolves will be without Lithuanian Centre, Donatas Visockis, who departed the club on Tuesday following the mutual termination of his contract.
Wolves then face a long journey north to face the Glasgow Rocks at the Emirates Arena on Sunday (30th), the scene of Wolves’ historic BBL Trophy win last season.
