November 2014 James Delighted with Holmes’ Start

Chavis Holmes’ flying start to life in a Wolves shirt has not gone unnoticed by Head Coach, Paul James, who says that he is “delighted” with the way that the American guard has begun the season.

Holmes has played a key role in Wolves’ six-game unbeaten league run, and was integral in Friday’s dramatic comeback against the Sheffield Sharks, bagging the decisive points to clinch a late 76-78 win for Wolves to keep them second in the British Basketball League (BBL) table.

James also believes that the former Surrey United player, who has averaged nearly 16 points per game this season, is helping to fill the void left by the summer departure of Zaire Taylor.

“I’m delighted with what he’s doing,” said James, whose side have been defeated just once in the league so far this term.

“I’ve been really impressed with him and I knew that he was a class player. He does a lot of things, but maybe quietly. He’s maybe not a Zaire Taylor, but if you look at his numbers, they’re every bit as good as Zaire’s numbers.

“He’s very level headed and calm and that’s what I wanted from my point guard. It’s no surprise to me really how well he’s done, fitting back into the BBL and the system we run,” he added.

Wolves are next in action when they host the Bristol Flyers on Friday evening, knowing that a win would see them go joint-top of the league, for at least 24 hours.

They will be without Lithuanian centre Donatas Visockis, who left the club by mutual consent this week.
