November 2014 Women’s Team Through to National Trophy Last Eight

Worcester Wolves’ women’s team has taken a step closer to emulating the trophy success of their male counterparts after battling their way through to the quarter final stage of the Women’s National Trophy.

The team, who play in the Midlands South West Division, convincingly beat Bristol Rising Storm 79-36 to book their place in the last eight, where they will play Oaklands College Wolves on December 7.

Finnish centre Hannah Kuula was the star of the show against Bristol – she recorded 37 points as the Wolves took control of the game from the second quarter onwards.

Spanish guard Paula Bayon and Welsh international Imogen Youd both contributed with eleven points each, in a game in which all Wolves players got their names on the score sheet.

Head Coach Alex Radu said after the victory: “All the players stepped up and took their opportunity. A completely different type of effort and a great team performance helped us win the game and reach the next round.”

The women’s programme at Wolves was expanded earlier this year, building on the huge success of the men’s team, who won their first two pieces of major silverware last season, and the University’s men’s and wheelchair sides, who are both national champions.

The women’s quarter final against Oaklands College Wolves will take place at the University of Worcester at 4pm on Sunday December 7.
