James: ‘We’ll Give Bristol Everything We Have’

Worcester Wolves head coach, Paul James, has insisted that his side will be giving Friday’s BBL Cup Quarter Final against the Bristol Flyers ‘everything they have’.

Last year’s BBL Trophy and BBL Play-off winners face the 8th placed Flyers at the University of Worcester Arena on Friday as they look to build on last season’s historic trophy success.

Despite losing their last three consecutive games, the Flyers have made a steady start to life in British Basketball’s top flight, having already claimed victories against Plymouth Raiders, Glasgow Rocks and the Manchester Giants in their debut season.

James believes that they should not be taken lightly: “We respect every team that we have to play. Bristol had a great start to the BBL season. It’s their first season in the league and they’ve already beaten some big teams so we’re not taking anything for granted whatsoever.

James also indicated that there was an extra incentive with the final of the BBL Cup being held at the NIA in Birmingham, after fans had clocked up the mileage last season attending finals in London and Glasgow.

“It’s a massive incentive but our focus is well and truly on the next game and winning through hopefully to the semi-final, and then we’re two games away from the final so we’ll be giving this game everything we have.

“It’s always tougher the second season around, in terms of trying to win something. But we’ve got a very good team, we’ve got depth – we’ve got every bit as good a team as last year.

“The pressure’s on us to go out there and deliver. Hopefully we come out and play the great defence we did against Leeds last weekend and put an offensive performance together to win us through to the semi-final,” he added.
