Multiple Wolves amongst best in BBL

Last weekend Worcester Wolves completed a run of four wins from four games played during December and ensured they enter 2014 sitting at the top of the British Basketball League.

The latest 102-72 victory over Birmingham Knights was not only notable for continuing the Wolves’ hot streak of form, but also because four of the players from that match have had their performances recognised as amongst the league’s best.

Will Creekmore and Zaire Taylor have made it onto the starting five in the BBL’s latest Team of the Week, while Alex Owumi and Daniel Belgrave are included on the BBL bench.

Creekmore was an unstoppable force against the Knights, accumulating a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, earning him his fifth weekly honour.

Meanwhile Taylor almost secured the rare feat of a triple-double of statistics. He served up a majestic 15 passes for his teammates to convert into scores, added 10 points of his own, and snatched seven rebounds. It was arguably the ease of the victory that allowed Wolves the luxury of withdrawing him early from the action, denying him his individual statistical triumph.

Owumi was the evening’s leading scorer, tallying 24 points, while Belgrave saved his best numbers for the very last game for Worcester during 2013. He shot with astonishing accuracy, making five of the six shots he took, including four three-pointers, to total 14 points.
Wolves begin 2014 with a trip to Manchester Giants this Sunday, before returning home to face Durham Wildcats at the University of Worcester Arena on Friday 10 January.
